Honorable Commissioner For Environment And Utilities.

The following letters were delivered and receive on behalf of the commissioner and quick response was given to it after which a piece of land measuring 100 Hectares was approve for the farming purpose, requested for by the All Cooperative Farmers Association.

REPOSITIONING AGRICULTURE IN EDO STATE: All Cooperative Farmers Association

To whom it may concern:
I want to remind;
Ø The Honorable Commissioner For Agriculture And Natural Resources.
Ø Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Agriculture.
Ø Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Environment.
Ø Director of Farm Service And Pest Control Ministry Of Agriculture.
Ø The Honorable Chairman, Ovia North East Local Government Area

That I have on behalf of the Organized Co-operative Farmers in Edo State written severally to suggest, recommend, remind you of the dilemma Edo Farmers are facing. Only for the proposition to be taken with laxity.

I want to once again remind you that in 2013 there was a report release in one of the national station and relayed in one of the State Television Station said that Edo was placed as the 16th cassava producing state in the country.
This report ignited the move by the All Cooperative Farmers Association to pay a visit to the local government chairman of Ovia North East local Government Area, Okada. To intimate her of the intent of the co-operative farmers mouth-piece to establish a co-operative farm in Okokhuo community, in order o boost the cultivation of cassava in the local government area.

The farmers Association has cited this project in Okokhuo because of the relative peace experienced in the community. Another reason for citing the project in Okokhuo community was because of the fertility of the soil in the said area, and also because that was where the state government through the Ministry of Environment agreed to approve a piece of land for the purpose of farming for this great farmers Association to set up this proposed co-operative farm

During the visit the council boss promised to immediately order the works department to do a on-the spot assessment of the road in order to commence the bulldozing and grading of the only major road leading to numbers of farms in the community, including the cooperative farm
To assure the all cooperative farmers Association of how determined she was, the information was broadcast in the state broadcasting station Edo Broadcasting Television

Base on this assurance giving to the farmers that the bulldozing of the road will commerce immediately, they embarked on the processing of the land for cultivation.
From the want of these farmers they were able to collective raise about N2.6m which was used for clearing, crosscutting, preparing and planting of the 50 acres cleared by the zealous and dedicated farmers of the Association.

To analyze the situation All Cooperative Farmers Faced after strenuously coughing out almost N3m in a project that the farmers were not able t salvage even N2, 000=
Gave birth to confusion, disagreement, separation distrust which eventually erupt among the members of the Association. This presently is still ongoing. This wouldn’t have been experienced if the Ovia North East Boss, Kept her promise of Bulldozing and Grading the farm road as the money spent by the farmers for the project is like money thrown into flame of fire. Almost blowing away with a whirlwind like chaff, this would have been prevented.

Our recommendation and request therefore is that even if the appropriate office here-unto mentioned cannot completely repay for the damaged already done, we request that the road to the farm should immediately be bulldoze and graded financial support should be rendered to all farmers that has participated in the farm seedlings and other available support should be provided in order to assist the All Cooperative Farmers Association to meet up with their targets of cultivation 100 acres of cassava farm this 2014 farming season
Your understanding will be highly appreciated

                                                                  General Secretary,
                                                  All cooperative farmers Association

                                                                                                                                        19th Sept, 2013

The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture,

All Co-operative Farmers Association, (ACFA) Edo State. Has been registered as farmers’ co-operative representative in the state under the Ministry of Youth/Sports and Social Mobilization. With her mission as, to bring together, protect and make financial and moral provisions for all farmers affiliated to her, in Edo State. ACFA also have a responsibility to protect all her members from being lynch or cheated on by oppressors. ACFA members are very sure that no matter how strong or popular their intending challengers may be, ACFA will never give way to any of its traits
We want to notify you sir of the letters already delivered to your office In respect of our intending visit to your honorable office. One of the letters had Reference No; ACFA/Hqtrs 03-Ben/ Cm/A 1/03 and dated 01st June, 2013. Why the other bears Reference No: ACFA/Hqtrs 011-Ben/ Cm/A 02 and dated, 29th August, 2013.

We requested to pay you an official visit to discuss this issue because we find relevance in you as the only solution to this Ricky-Nicky playing in the farming sector. please Sir, we are approaching a new farming season and we are very sure that to mass produce food stuff in the state as required by the federal government of Nigeria, which is being developed by means of his Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), we believe this step already being worked on by the All Co-operative Farmers Association, will help to imprison food insecurity in the state in particular and the country in general.

We want to use this great opportunity to congratulate you for your recent appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture And Natural Resourced, Edo State.

We still confidently stand on our pledge that if we are given a level plain ground to operate, we shall help your Ministry to generate reasonable tax from our farmers to support the faith strengthening programs of the Comrade Governor. This will give us the buoyancy to join you in acknowledge with the state governor that we shall move to the next level, together.

We promise to remain loyal to you if you give us the expected recognition/information and if you support our effort to reposition agriculture in the state.

ARE WE MEETING UP WITH THE PURPOSE OF SETTING UP THE CO-OPERATIVE UNION?

                                                          AG-L11/FUM05/D-TR1/FA-05
                                                         7TH December, 2012.

The President,
Through the Manager,
Edo State Co-operative Farmers Agency,
Benin City,
Edo State
            Sir,
DOES POWER ACTUALLY INTOXICATE?
I want to bring to your notice once again sir that I have submitted several letters to your office bringing to your notice events taking place in Ovia North East Co-operative Farmers Union, Okada.

It’s rather unfortunate that you held the report with laxity on the fraction of the supplicant. Be reminded sir that in your presence, I was legally appointed into the office of the Secretary of the Ovia North East Farmers Union, hence, my appointment can only be terminated through a legal process. The fact that I decided to be patience with the recent attitude of the Union president is base on the genuine love I have for the Union and all its members. And the fact that I am very well aware that he’s being intoxicated with the power of presidency to that office as I am very sure he has never hold such an esteemed position before.

I also see a need to respect your office by waiting for you to address the discrepancies amicably. But my patience is wearing away because from all aspect; there is symptom of partiality in the process. As a report submitted to your office in the month of September has not been attended to. Even when a follow up document was submitted to you a month later.
There is no obscure about the truth that it seems the agency and her affiliate unions are operating without ethics. I hereby urge you to prepare yourself to serve the people diligently, and without prejudice. I want to assure you here sir that co-operative society operates on the same principle all over the world. One of the principles which is DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED, is expected to be operated on the basis that any business formed by more than one person is expected to also be controlled by all affiliate members, democratically.

Therefore, the destructive action taken by the ONECFU president Mr. Newman .S. Orogun which has been communicated to you in the month of September, should be critically looked into, without any favoritism in order to correct the aberration already taking shape in the union. I am bothered because I have invested so much for the success of the union farm at Okokhuo and Mr. Newman has instructed his committee not to allow me go to my portion and the portion of some other persons I have allotted land for in the farm, as the Manager of the Union, with permission from the same president, Mr. Orogun .S. Newman.

Sir, if Mr. Newman intends to employ another person to work for him as his secretary, I am not disturbing him. But his hindering me, my group and some other persons I allot land for from working in the farm, may not augur well for him, because I know the sacrifice I have made to make sure the union gets a hold on the said farmland.

Please sir, help them to terminate my appointment justly, and also advice the president not to obstruct me, my group and some others I allotted land for in the farmland, in order for peace to continue to reign in the Union.

I have always hold your office with respect which I will always do if you continue to put the right peg in the right hole, just as the Comrade governor of Edo State is setting the pace. The farmland was approved for the union with the condition that it is going to be utilized for the purpose at which it was approved. Otherwise they (Ministry of Environment and Utilities)gave us a condition that they will revoke or take away the land from us if it’s not used within a specified period of time.

Also be inform sir that according to the Bye-Laws of the Ovia North East Local Government Area Farmers’ Multi-purpose Co-operative Union Limited, page 6 section 23 under the heading OFFICERS AND MANAGERS, it states “The president, the Vice President and Treasurer elected at the Annual General Meeting shall hold office for one year and shall resign at the next Annual General Meeting”. Therefore January 2013 being the first January after the first year of operation of the executives of the union, the Union will hold her first Annual General Meeting. And it is your responsibility to coordinate the AGM in collaboration with staffs of the Co-operative Department, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Your ability to put an end to this looming horror and to reorganize the Union for better production will show that you are not associated to those who allow power to intoxicate them by speculating that bad is good and that good is bad.
Thanks,

Yours Respectfully,
